Training school: Phenotyping Practice, Machine Learning and Industry Insights


TRAVEL GRANT:

 
  We are grateful for a Travel Grant of the  Wheat Phenotyping to Support Wheat Improvement Expert Working Group (->Phenotyping EWG) and the Wheat Initiative (WI) for  paticipants of the training school and the EPPS -> more details.

The training school is designed to introduce the participants to the fundamentals of Machine Learning and Deep Learning and it will provide you with hands-on experience and insights from industry experts on the use of the latest technology.

The Program:

Prep-Day, Friday 05.09 - online preparatory workshop

  • Introduction to image analysis,  machine learning and deep learning
  • Preparation of the hands on payton-day 

 Day 1, Friday 12.09., hands on python

  • Backgrond on machine learning and deep learning
  • Hands-on in python incl. practical exercise

Day 2, Saturday 13.09., half-day excursion

  • Visits of regional sites including a large coal mining area  and activities on the way to a bio-based economy

Day 3, Monday 15.09., hands on devices

  • Hands-on training with industry representatives to asses phenotyping traits with latest technology

Please note that participation in the training school does not include participation in the European Plant Phenomics Symposium; separate registration is required for the EPPS participation. Please register here for the EPPS!

Registration costs for selected participants: 150 EUR

  • Submit your application by 07.07.2025

  • Information of selected participants: 16.07.2025

  • Preparatory workshop (online): end of July

Participation includes:

  • the training material will be available for all participants

  • coffee breaks and lunch during the training days

  • excursion Saturday 13.09. 

How to participate?

  • The participants are supposed to provide a short CV and a motivation letter using the TEMPLATE

  • Send it to epps@fz-juelich.de

  • Up to 30 participants will be selected by the organisational committee based on the CV and motivation letter.

  • The participants are supposed to bring their own laptops, relevant tools will be provided and discussed in the preparatory workshop
